Akshually, there’s no NOT involved, them’s the data:
Keep in mind, we were doing a lot more testing back then, and since we have no percent positive data, we have no idea what this week’s numbers really mean. Also, we still had a mask mandate at that level of COVID prevalence. What is worrisome is that we’ve seen a doubling of cases in four weeks, so if that continues, we will automatically breach the ‘yellow’ zone in the CDC’s new ‘community’ metrics (community is in scare quotes because the new CDC system is entirely about not overloading hospitals, not your risk of being infected).
Like many D.C. residents, I often draw a distinction between D.C. and official Wor-Shing-Tun, but there was an outbreak at this year’s Gridiron Dinner resulting in a bunch of elected and appointed Democrats getting COVID, and just yesterday, Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi–who is 82 years old–announced she has COVID. The day before, Pelosi attended a signing ceremony and was perched over 80 year old President Biden’s shoulder.
Vaccination is really important at preventing hospitalization and death, and likely reduces long COVID, but could the geriatric leadership of the Democratic Party–and I mean geriatric quite literally–be a little more cautious?
Put another way, were you wearing masks in early February? Because that’s where we’re likely going to be in a week (if not right now).
