As of 9am Friday, there was one homicide in D.C. this week. To date this year, D.C. has reported a total of 79* homicides this year (there was one more murder reported from May of this year). Last year, during the same time period, we had 113 homicides, and in the surge year of 2023, there were 224 homicides during that same time period.
Both violent and property crimes trended upwards this week.
While we’re still off pace for another 33% annual reduction in homicides, the first time since the last year of the Biden Administration, this week had a decline in homicides from four to one.
Hoping for a zero homicide week next week.
*Three of the 82 murders reported this year actually occurred in other years (e.g., a missing persons case from 2023 turned into a homicide case this year with new evidence).
