Hoo boy, did it. And there are bonus data issues too! Before we get to that, no wards are below the German rollback threshold of 50 new cases per 100,000 per week–which also is the moderate threshold the CDC uses (0.05% in the second column below; n/a is not available):
|Ward||one-week prevalence||one-week % pos.||two-week prevalence||two-week % pos.|
Every ward had massive increases, with the entire city more than doubling the number of cases (with Delta like this, who needs Omicron?). Some of that, no doubt, is due to a Thanksgiving testing decline. There also are some data issues. If the data are to be believed, Ward 2 yesterday had 86 new positives, while neighboring Ward 3 had zero. I can make up stories about how that could happen, but we also had another Great Unknowning this week (Monday, over 700 cases were shoved into the Unknown category), so who knows what’s happening.
The good news is we have a masking policy in place, and cheap, available at-home testing. HAH! WE MAKE THE FUNNY! We don’t have any of that, so you suckas are on your own!
Vaccination seems to be rising, but, based on my personal experience, I think there’s some miscounting going on, so hopefully, there’s more people with two or three doses than the official statistics suggest (by the way, the vaccine is a three dose course. As vaccine experts said it would be all along).
Since Mayor Bowser and the gormless Council (horrible band name) have decided that it’s up to individual efforts to stop spread, keep wearing a mask in most* public places indoors, get fully vaccinated, and yell at our elected officials to impose more vaccine requirements for non-essential activities.
Anger is the appropriate emotion.
