Each flag represents one COVID-19 death in the U.S., most of which did not need to happen. This was an utter breakdown of governance and individual civic duty (observed on the Mall, D.C.):

      New flags, every day…what a country…

      Glad the artist managed to move it from the Armory to the Mall. I do not know where the flags will be installed next (the location at the Mall had a short-time permit) but imagine the brutality of just doing the work, and then knowing that once you catch up to the present, you’ve got a thousand more tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after…
