If you haven’t heard, last night a fire blew through a 115,000 volt transformer at the edge of Boston’s Back Bay. I was a couple blocks away right after it started. I was told by a police officer, at the corner of Hereford and Boylston who was blocking off the street, that the smoke was potential toxic (not that there’s really non-toxic smoke):
This is what it looked like one block and one minute later at Gloucester and Commonwealth Ave.:
Then it started settling in across Commonwealth Ave.:
Then it got really smokey. This is at Gloucester Street–and that’s not fog, but smoke:
And the smoke started to sink:
Normally, from this view down Fairfield Street, you can see the skyscrapers across the river in Cambridge:
Not yesterday evening.
Never a dull moment.
