First, let’s start with the silver lining: Kerry’s defeat was not a McGovern or Mondale-scale wipeout. Having said that, the Democrats must change course. Some will argue that fundamentally changing tactics is panicking, that Gore came really close in 2000, and that, but for an incredibly high evangelical turnout, Kerry could have won in 2004. Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that if we continue on the same path, we’ll hear another ‘legitimate’ excuse for losing in 2008? Quite simply, more of the same is insufficient.
The next few (or more) posts will be about the election and what it means for the Democrats.
