As of 9am today, there were no homicides in D.C. this week. To date this year, D.C. has reported a total of 71* homicides this year. Last year, during the same time period, we had 107 homicides, and in the surge year of 2023, there were 196 homicides during that same time period.

In property crimes, auto-related crimes spiked a bit, while other property crimes declined. Violent crimes remained constant. We’ll need more good weeks like this to have another 33 percent decline in homicides for the year–a rate of decline that began under Biden.

Hopefully, next week has zero homicides too.

*Three of the 74 murders reported this year actually occurred in other years (e.g., a missing persons case from 2023 turned into a homicide case this year with new evidence).
