  1. Anne Nonymous says:

“Mathematical proof debunks the idea that the universe is a computer simulation”

“The research hinges on a fascinating property of reality itself. Modern physics has moved far beyond Newton’s tangible “stuff” bouncing around in space. Einstein’s theory of relativity replaced Newtonian mechanics. Quantum mechanics transformed our understanding again. Today’s cutting-edge theory—quantum gravity—suggests that even space and time aren’t fundamental. They emerge from something deeper: pure information.

This information exists in what physicists call a Platonic realm—a mathematical foundation more real than the physical universe we experience. It’s from this realm that space and time themselves emerge.”

Are you fucking kidding me? Is this a joke? Physicists can’t even define what a field is, all they can do is describe it by how it affects things. And there are several theories of quantum gravity, but none has been experimentally verified.

Of course, I’m only responding to the article linked to, not the paper it refers to. I’m not a mathematician or a physicist!

  2. zero says:

There’s a trivial answer to the problem of “This statement is false”, but people don’t like it because it violates the core axion of boolean logic.
Statements may be true, false or neither. A paradoxical construction of language is perfectly valid despite being neither true nor false. The same thing expressed mathematically is unphysical.
Godel’s incompleteness theorem is valid in a purely mathematical context. It may not be such a strong constraint when attempting to translate between mathematical concepts and natural language. I do not think it has the appropriate leverage to be used as a disproof of the simulation hypothesis.
