Because, as some asshole with a blog has discussed, the Democratic leadership plan is to do very little to obstruct Trump. Here, in no particular order, are some ideas I’ve gleaned from various places:
- The total restoration of all impounded funds. I’m not sure how to fix USAID at this point, but HHS funding certainly would be useful.
- An end to the federal military and internal security forces occupation of cities and the mainland colony of the District of Columbia.
- Total restoration of mRNA research funding.
- Total restoration of previously committed NIH funding (overlaps with #1)
- The resignation of Kennedy, other HHS leaders, and members of ACIP.
- Restoring the previous guidelines for access to COVID vaccines.
- An end to illegal tariffs (most are a violation of federal law).
- Consequences, including resignation, for Hegseth chat participants.
- Immediate saving of text messages (and only using systems that allow that).
- Total release of the Epstein files.
I’m not saying that should fight for or will successfully accomplish all of these (or all parts of any one of these). But if the Democratic rank-and-file don’t start pushing for some/all of these demands, I’m fairly certain Democratic leadership will knuckle under on Sept. 30, when a government shutdown would happen. That’s what they want to do.

What bargaining chips do the Ds in Congress have, that Trump will be even a bit inclined to give in on any of these demands? If Congress does not pass funding bills, then Trump’s already established practice of ignoring the current funding laws will be much better justified than it has been to date. Br’er Trump wants to be thrown into that briar patch.
