In case you missed it, yesterday, Republican Senator Mike Lee gave a speech decrying the Green New Deal. Not only did he conclude that “the solution to so many of our problems at all times and in all places [including supposedly non-existent climate change] is to fall in love, get married and have some kids”, but he used a picture of Ronald Reagan riding a dinosaur while firing a machine gun to make his point. To which Democratic Rep. Ocasio-Cortez responded (via Tweet, since it’s 2019 and everything is horrible):

Like many other women & working people, I occasionally suffer from impostor syndrome: those small moments, especially on hard days, where you wonder if the haters are right. But then they do things like this to clear it right up. If this [Mike Lee] guy can be Senator, you can do anything.

I find Ocasio-Cortez’s ignorance refreshing: she is gloriously unaware that she is supposed to dignify his remarks with a civil response, and simply points out what a fucking moron he is. Unlike Lee’s colleague, Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander, who is both a conservative and intelligent*, did the smart, if bad thing, of proposing some halfway legislative ideas that sound good but don’t really do much (or anything).

Lee is an idiot; he has always been an idiot, and good for Ocasio-Cortez for not pretending otherwise.

*Many politicians on both sides of the aisle are of average intelligence, if that. Alexander really isn’t one of them. He’s quite bright. So is Ocasio-Cortez.
