Republicans have one last shot at weakening the ACA (Obamacare) through a bill that’s being referred to as Cassidy-Graham. Unlike previous attempts, Cassidy-Graham is especially pernicious. It imposes a Medicaid per-capita cap, which, by 2027, would throw more people off of Medicaid than would a straight repeal. This would cost states more than the previous ACA repeal attempt would have.
Keep in mind, Medicaid isn’t just about healthcare for low income people. The majority of Medicaid spending goes towards nursing home care for the disabled and the elderly. This would be devastating across generations, as many families simply can’t afford nursing home care by themselves.
Republicans feel the need to do something about Obamacare, so do not dismiss this lightly.
