Democratic Platform Delegates And the Forgotten Art Of Negotation

As I’ve noted before, the idea that Democratic operatives might have to negotiate with the Left (as opposed to the Right, which is their usual modus operandi) seems to have made a few of them unhinged.

When you read something like this article over the platform negotiations, keep in mind that Sanders is just negotiating. If he says, “don’t worry, I won’t hurt you in November”, then he won’t get anything. He has to maintain a credible threat: after a quarter century of observing New Democrats, it’s clear they never work with the left when it is well-behaved (e.g., they only took gays-in-the-military seriously when donors threatened to withhold and gay activist groups promised to embarrass them).

I really hope many of the people who are getting severely butthurt by Sanders’ tactics are not the ones in their households who make major purchasing decisions.
