    Those of us in the UK who are old enough to remember our pre-decimal currency will know that our coins used to have “Imp. Ind.” on them, standing for Empress of India.
    Even now we have “F.D” for “defender of the faith” (I’m skipping the Latin in both cases!), which was an honour granted by the pope to Henry VIII before he left the Catholic church and created the Church of England!
