From one of the links: “So, every time there is a terrorist attack, what we really need to do is demand that they cut the budgets of all the intelligence agencies. And, if they still keep failing, then we need to get rid of them and start the process again with new agencies and new managers.”

Question: how is this meaningfully different from No Child Left Behind? School, you’ve failed, and as punishment we’ll take away what little hope of success you may have left. I’d be worried that cutting funding in that manner would simply encourage more growth in the cottage industry of private companies doing public functions, like all the contracts Alexander’s new company got after he left the NSA. And to me, that seems to be an equivalent to the charter school movement — even *less* accountable and far more questionable.

That’s not a defense of the Intelligence Agencies’ work to date or budget, but merely an observation of the warped logic behind “It’s failing so let’s hobble it” when it seems the appropriate response should be “It’s failing so let’s apply root-cause analysis and apply the budget to fixing that problem.”

Quarantines are stupid? Healthcare professionals caught this disease when treating patients because the transmission characteristics were not appreciated. They are still not completely elucidated. Ebola is a contagious disease and has a high fatality rate. How are quarantines “fucking stupid”?
