Life Begins at Contraception and Ends at Honduran

Or something. When the right wing started caterwauling about the hordes of undocumented immigrant children, I asked “Where Do We Want Honduran Children to Die?” and referred to Barbara O’Brien:

Unfortunately I don’t see a real solution that wouldn’t require some kind of action on the part of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, which are even more dysfunctional than the U.S. House of Representatives. Our basic choices at the moment are either to give the children shelter or ship them back to a place where many more will die. If we choose the former, we need to spend some money and make an effort to treat these children humanely so they have a chance of growing up to be responsible and law-abiding people.

If it’s the latter, wingnuts stop the phony outrage about bodies in the Rio Grande. If we ship them home, we’re shipping some of them to their deaths; the only difference is that they’ll die out of reach of Fox News cameras.

I hate being right about this (boldface mine):

“There are many youngsters who only three days after they’ve been deported are killed, shot by a firearm,” said Hector Hernandez, who runs the morgue in San Pedro Sula. “They return just to die.”

At least five, perhaps as many as 10, of the 42 children slain here since February had been recently deported from the U.S., Hernandez said.

Immigrant aid groups and human rights organizers say the Honduran government is ill-equipped to assist children at high risk after they have been returned.

The reality is some of these children have already had family members murdered: they aren’t fleeing potential violence, but existing violence.

This was not only predictable, it was predicted. This Cassandra bullshit is getting old. Enough of their past, time for our future.

  1. Dbp says:

Conservatives want them deported because lynching them here is illegal (if you’re not a cop). Also conservatives are lazy and hate to do their own work (they are physically repulsed at the thought of effort), so making someone else do their dirty work has several pros and no cons.
