    That story in Detroit illiteracy rates is from 2011, and was debunked back then. It’s based on two decade old data based on questionable methodology.

    The 47% Detroit literacy rate is the result of a 1998 analysis by the National Institute for Literacy, performed on data from the National Adult Literacy Survey (NALS), published in 1993.
