    What’s the legal standard in your jurisdiction? I vaguely remember you had to be no more than 30cm from the curb in British Columbia and/or Alberta, but presumably in your still-using-iron-age-measurements region it would be something like 12 inches or 1/3 yard or 1/17th League or somesuch.
