I completely agree. More scientists should be running for office, and they should be winning, especially over career politicians. Then again, if all the scientists went into politics, then there would be a big void in the labs. All the politicians would have to go back to school and get degrees in science. Somebody suggest that as an alternative to Hillary in a few months. I bet she could run a mean protein gel.
This brings up a story from graduate school. Many moons ago, a faculty member decided he would return to working in the lab; that is, actually being at the bench. He loused things up so badly, his graduate students began calling him “GelBoy”, since that was the only thing they would let him do.
Just sharing.
Note: I am not the faculty member in question (which would be difficult since this is a story from graduate school)

Margaret Thatcher, who was a chemistry graduate, was involved in the research which led to soft scoop ice cream before she went into politics. It remains moot as to whether her legacy as a politician or as a scientist is worse.
