Afghanistan: U.S. Soldiers Left In Lurch By ‘Surge’

The frustration of the soldiers in Afghanistan must have just ‘surged’. Why? Because, as part of the Bush-McCain surge, soldiers in Afghanistan will be withdrawn and sent to Iraq just in time for a Taliban offensive:

A US Army battalion fighting in a critical area of eastern Afghanistan is due to be withdrawn within weeks to deploy to Iraq.
Army Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata and other US commanders say that will happen as the Taliban is expected to unleash a campaign to cut the vital road between Kabul and Kandahar.
The official said the Taliban intend to seize Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second-largest city, where the group was organized in the 1990s.
“We anticipate significant events there next spring,” Tata said.

Remember when Bush was talking about giving the ground commanders everything they asked for? Liar.
If this offensive materializes, there’s going to be a unit that finds itself in trouble–because these things always happen in war. And the help won’t come in time because there won’t be enough troops. Our fellow citizens will hold bravely, they will be disfigured and maimed bravely, and they will die bravely. All because Bush is too foolish to let the Iraqi Occupation end during his term.

  1. Not such a huge surprise really. The goal of Bush and his cronies has never really been the war in Afganistan. That was just a precursor to Iraq and apparently soon Iran.

The Taliban can’t fight thier way out of a paper bag right now. Thier idea of an offensive is get in a bunch of trucks drive across the border die by the dozens and go back and talk about the get victory the accomplished by getting themselfs killed. Great things are giong on here. The common people hate the Taliban and although we have a long way to go this is becomming a better place to live everyday. I can tell you this beause I live and work here and the BS you here in the news it just that. Thanks. Michael Wackenhut. International Security Lead. Fayzabad Afghanistan.

As we all know, Mike, ‘some or most’ of the 9/11 hijackers were from Iraq, and the rest were from Iran. Afghanistan has nothing to do with it. They just need a whuppin’ . Now we’ve moved on to bigger and badder bad guys. We’re too cool to care what happens in Afghanistan.

  4. The Japanese in World War II were just as fanatical as the Muslims.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki changed their tune!
Our government needs to announce that its time to END THIS THING!
That Mecca and Medina are on the list.
    NOW!
