They really should. Probably Burgum too*. Yesterday, House Republicans decided to close the House and cancel all votes until after the election because they wanted to avoid an impeachment vote of Defense Secretary and white Christian supremacist Pete Hegseth. When it comes to impeaching Trump, it’s highly unlikely, even if Democrats rout Republicans in the midterms, that enough Republicans would be willing to break with Trump (though one never knows).

But Hegseth, HHS Secretary Kennedy, and OMB Director Vought are not popular, nor do they have the heft with the Republican base that Trump currently does. Importantly, given Trump’s ongoing failures, Republicans will be looking for scapegoats. While their impeachment convictions wouldn’t be certain, they have violated the constitution and the law in plain sight, and have made horrible policy decisions. There’s no way for them to hide any of this either. This wouldn’t be just an attempt to highlight how awful Republicans are, it actually might remove some of them, either through actual impeachment, or pressure to resign.

Here’s to hoping Democrats actually want to force the issue(s).

*The Kennedy Center crap alone makes Burgum very unpopular. If nothing else, Democrats also should pass legislation to reorganize how the Kennedy Center is governed, and force Republicans to vote on this too.
