Biden Has an Opportunity to Stick the Knife in Trump. Will He Take It?

Needless to say, there’s a lot of chatter about Biden withdrawing from the presidential race. As he’s scheduled to give a spoken announcement later this week*, Biden has the opportunity to cast Trump as the older, ailing (including mentally) candidate. He could start by saying that time catches us all, and even though he wasn’t having a good night, he could see that Trump wasn’t either (“Folks, I do know, when your sentences don’t hang together, it’s time to step back”). He then could call on Trump to step aside too, saying something along the lines “Your and my time is past, it’s time for America’s future.” And he needs to dedicate a couple of minutes to this–it can’t be a throwaway sentence.

Democrats need to define Trump as the old, ailing, and past his prime candidate, which he is, but that won’t happen unless Democrats, including the president of these United States, explicitly draw attention to the issue (and none of this influence blocking shit, just fire out straight at them). It not only hurts Trump, but it also would put the political press corps on the defensive: after months of going on about Trump’s age, the (now) oldest presidential candidate in history should be assessed for mental acuity too. For once, Democrats need to work the refs.

Anyway, if that jackass Sorkin can write (now sort of retracted) fantasy fiction for the NY Times, then allow me my small fantasies on this crappy blog…

*One reason for the delay is likely due to his need to recover from a COVID infection announced over the weekend. I’m sure he doesn’t want to make this announcement in anything other than top form (or at least not coughing and dripping with snot form).
