Will Saletan, who isn’t exactly a leftwinger, found this observation by a Republican in a Iowa focus group about former presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy:
“I’m not being prejudiced, guys, but I don’t like his name. I don’t like where he came from. After 9/11, I still harbor a lot of hard feelings.”
Oh sweetie, you’re being prejudiced. And this respondent said this out loud. To other people.
I do believe better policies–when tied to a narrative–will encourage low-propensity-to-vote Democratic-leaning people to show up, but people like this, well, there is no balm in Gilead to heal these sin-sick souls. At this point, they’re not ‘getable.’
For posterity, because who the hell knows what Musk will do to Xitter:
Republicans aren’t going to vote for anyone for president that looks anything like Barack Obama or Kamal Harris. I firmly believe that Nikki Haley recognizes this fact.
