For those who don’t know what the Iron Law of Institutions is (boldface mine):
What he’s overlooking is that the Democrats operate according to the Iron Law of Institutions. The Iron Law of Institutions is: the people who control institutions care first and foremost about their power within the institution rather than the power of the institution itself. Thus, they would rather the institution “fail” while they remain in power within the institution than for the institution to “succeed” if that requires them to lose power within the institution.
Last night, Democrats lost a special Congressional election in Kansas by seven points, which was a 24 point swing from 2017. The Democrat, Thompson, a former civil right attorney, ran as an economically left, pro-gun and pro-LGBT candidate. The Republican received national financial support from his party, while the Democratic Party, at every level, did nothing to help him.
Of course, even with support, he might have lost, but not supporting the candidate means no one will look bad when he loses. Meanwhile, if a New Democrat like Jon Oshoff (whom I’ve donated to as well) loses, there will be much wailing and concern.
