  1. Re: Harkin. I don’t listen to the technobrats. But I’m not listening to Harkin either. I listened to Joe Lieberman and Evan Bayh both of whom threatened to let the filibusters stand if there was anything like “liberal” policies in the ACA. I’ll be glad to listen to anyone who can explain how they could have been forced to get on board with a public option.

    Seconding this (go over to ‘Lawyers, Guns and Money’ for a deeper analysis).

    The bill had to get 60 Senators. All of the so-called ‘moderate’ GOP Senators had repeatedly reneged, after months of compromise. The last two Dem Senators on the right were Lieberman and Ben Nelson. Those two would have walked if the bill was one quantum unit to the left. I don’t know who the next several Dem Senators on the right were, but they’d have probably walked at two quantum units.

    In the end Harkin is a guy who lost the election, and wants to blame it on somebody else; Schumer is a wh*re for Wall St, eager to have everybody look elsewhere.
