Everyone go and read “The Collapse of Western Civilization” by Oreskes and Conway, and then try to tell me why this bullshit fucking matters at all. Obama is a fucking asshole who doesn’t give much more of a rats ass about climate or the environment than the sociopath republicans do. It’s all about short-term money for them.
Can I have back my two votes for him, please? And, also two more for my wife.
I’ve been reading Brian Green’s 3 books about string theory lately. Pretty cool stuff. But, it just doesn’t fucking matter.
All this talk about unmanned space exploration, sending a manned expedition to Mars just doesn’t fucking matter anymore. Nothing does. Just dealing with all the CO2 we put in the air. That’s all.
It won’t be long before we realize that Rush Limbaugh don’t know shit about science, and we will be expending all of out technical, and financial resources on dealing with how we fucked up the climate.
There won’t be no Mars mission. No strings to tie together general relativity to quantum mechanics. No Mag Lev trains. No robots to do your dishes, or suck your cock. Just a desperate attempt to survive and adapt. Our grandchildren will spit on our graves.

Nothing brings the foamers out better than a discussion of philosophy. I get Sean Carroll, he’s a bright guy and all that, but his defense of philosophy was not all that convincing. The foamers in the comment section (which is one poorly designed system) came out in force on both sides. If philosophy made a true effort to police its own (which is supposed to be the strength of science) it would garner greater respect. Unfortunately “philosophy” is represented by the likes of Stanley Fish, Gary Gutting, and Alain de Botton, all of whom demonstrate in very public forums some very sloppy thinking and adherence to Sokal’s “devotion to academic status.” If they are the best that philosophy has to offer than we would be better off without it.
