The BPL Goes Mobile

I’ve wondered when the Boston Public Library (a misnomer of sorts as any Massachusetts resident can get a card) would release a mobile app. Well, we wonder no longer:

The Boston Public Library now has a version of our catalog tailored to your smartphone or tablet computer. When you visit our online catalog using your mobile device, you’ll see an interface formatted especially for smaller screens. Use it to:

•Search for books, movies, music, and more
•Place hold requests and manage your account
•Rate titles, read user reviews, and update your shelves
•Check library hours, addresses, and view maps to all of our locations

If you own an Android* or Apple mobile device, our free BPL Mobile apps offer even more features than the mobile web:

•Stay logged in to save time
•Call a BPL library with a touch of your screen
•Find the nearest available copy of a title and get directions from your location

It’s actually pretty good. Worth getting if you use the library (and if you don’t, why not?).
