A Moment of Art Deco Romanticism

Yes, the title is oxymoronic. But if Bevis Hillier and Stephen Escritt are right, much of the Art Deco movement was fundamentally oxymoronic. Anyway, enough yap. Here’s Homeward Bound by Kent Rockwell:

    Are you sure the title is Homeward Bound? I thought it must be Billy Budd tests the yardarm from which he will later hang.
    Or isn’t that a yardarm?

    It’s a bowsprit. Rockwell Kent was quite the adventurous character–you should read Wilderness, Voyaging South from the Straits of Magellan, N by NW. His depiction of a man standing out on a bowsprit could well have been drawn from his own experience.
