A Better Week for D.C.’s Crime Stats

As of 9am Friday, there was one homicide in D.C. this week. To date this year, D.C. has reported a total of 77* homicides this year. Last year, during the same time period, we had 111 homicides, and in the surge year of 2023, there were 218 homicides during that same time period.

Non-violent crimes ticked upwards, while robberies and assaults declined. While we’re still off pace for another 33% annual reduction in homicides, the first time since the last year of the Biden Administration, this week had a decline in homicides from four to one.

Hoping for a zero homicide week next week.

*Three of the 80 murders reported this year actually occurred in other years (e.g., a missing persons case from 2023 turned into a homicide case this year with new evidence).
