…isn’t thinking about DACA. Because Apple CEO Tim Cook just announced that he stands with 250 colleagues who are Dreamers. That means he just told ICE where to find 250 people who fall under DACA.
If Bannon were in the White House, I have no doubt he would be urging Trump to send ICE to Apple to detain the Dreamers. Keep in mind, there are quite a few people who wonder why Apple’s products aren’t made in the U.S.*, so it’s a ‘two-fer’ for Trump: he rallies his anti-immigrant base, while demonizing Apple for not creating jobs in the U.S.
Il Trumpe still might do this, of course, but with Bannon on the outside, it’s less likely. Which probably matters to those 250 people.
*It’s not clear that there’s a manufacturing plant in the U.S. that can make the glass for the iPhone. The U.S. has excellent developer engineers, but manufacturing process engineer has languished, as plants move overseas. Bringing these jobs back to the U.S. is trickier than it seems.
I fully expect Apple would have a team of security personnel and lawyers sharpening their blades if the ICE-holes stir up any trouble.
