Well I’m sure it’s possible but without an explanation as to how they got there, I decide I don’t trust anything in the article.

Very true, the British, under Sir Guy Carleton, evacuated a large number of Loyalist blacks, many of whom, I believe, had served with the British forces, to British North America and other parts of the Empire. See Book of Negroes for names. I have even read a rumour that Washington’s (former) cook was among the group.
And not a one was returned to slavery. I believe that their descendants may use the UE designation after their name.

And if jrkrideau would check the Wikipedia article on Solomon, he’d learn that he “was born in Leszno (Lissa) Poland in 1740 to an Ashkenazi Jewish family descended from Spanish and Portuguese Jews who migrated to the Jewish communities of Poland as a result of the Spanish Inquisition of 1492 … ” – i.e. Ashkenazi, but going way back they were of Sephardic ancestry.
