  2. Cars expand/contract to the point that congestion is really obnoxious but the economy can just barely continue to function. Funny.

    When I was a kid, I’d spend the summers on my grandparents’ farm (West Peabody, MA) and Sundays we’d drive to my uncle’s place in Tamworth NH. The traffic coming back was always horrific, and this was the late 1950s.

    So I always wonder why more people don’t simply decide to not own a car. They’re expensive, stinky, dangerous, a god-awful waste of time (if you include the time to park, public transportation is always faster in any city anyone with any sense would care to live in), and trash the planet. But no one does. And we think lemmings are bad…
