Combustible Surgery

Wednesday, I have to have some surgery done, and the hospital, as part of pre-op, gave me a list of things to do and not to do before surgery. This, filed under don’t do, was interesting (boldface mine):

Please wash any hair products out of your hair. Hair spray, mousse, gel and other styling products. These can be flammable in the oxygen rich setting of the operating room.

Zoiks! I did not know this. I don’t use any of that stuff fortunately.

Then I guess it is good you are a biologist and not a chemist. 😉

  2. CC says:

I hope your surgery goes well and I hope that, regardless of your choice of hair product) that your surgical team chooses to not have an open flame or anything that sparks in this oxygen rich setting.
