In Any Other Administration…

this would result in an immediate firing (boldface mine):

In an undercover operation last year, the FBI recorded Tom Homan, now the White House border czar, accepting $50,000 in cash after indicating he could help the agents — who were posing as business executives — win government contracts in a second Trump administration, according to multiple people familiar with the probe and internal documents reviewed by MSNBC.

The FBI and the Justice Department planned to wait to see whether Homan would deliver on his alleged promise once he became the nation’s top immigration official. But the case indefinitely stalled soon after Donald Trump became president again in January, according to six sources familiar with the matter. In recent weeks, Trump appointees officially closed the investigation, after FBI Director Kash Patel requested a status update on the case, two of the people said…

Undercover FBI agents posing as contractors communicated and met several times last summer with a business colleague who introduced them to Homan, and with Homan himself, who indicated he would facilitate securing contracts for them in exchange for money once he was in office, according to documents and the people familiar with the case.

On Sept. 20, 2024, with hidden cameras recording the scene at a meeting spot in Texas, Homan accepted $50,000 in bills, according to an internal summary of the case and sources.

I realize this is par for the course for the most corrupt administration in U.S. history (and that includes both Harding and Reagan), but we should not forget this happened, and if Democrats take back power, there needs to be a reckoning. If the Democrats take back the House in 2026, they need to get their hands on the video.

Also, impeach Kash Patel. Impeach him now.

I’ve seen a video portraying Trump as granting pardons/clemency for $2 billion worth of crooks’ money. (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ktyjH0ff4hI)

What I haven’t seen is the reminder that, according to the Fed’s own audit, it extended $16 – $29 trillion in credit to the same financial sector whose frauds crashed the economy during the subprime/derivatives meltdown … during the **Obama** administration. Just for reference, that’s roughly 1,000 times bigger than the Trump criminality.

You may think Reagan (and Bush 41) are crooks–and you’re right–but during the previous biggest-ever bank scandal during their administrations, the S&Ls, their regulators actually did something. They filed 30,000+ referrals for prosecution, and Justice prosecuted 1200+ cases with a 90% conviction rate. They got big fish, too–Mike Milken and Charles Keating among them.

Fast forward to the subprime scandal during Obama’s term in office–something 70 times bigger than the S&Ls. How many referrals for criminal prosecution? Answer: zero. Justice prosecuted roughly a dozen cases–all small fish. One guy went to jail. The big thieves walked away with slap-on-the-wrist fines that were dimes on the dollar of their loot. No admission of guilt, either (makes the civil cases harder to prosecute).

So…what I haven’t heard is any sign of repentance from the D’s. Without that, we’re doomed to Trump as far as the eye can see. Incidentally, without this information, Trump voters are just ignorant bigots. With it they at least have a legitimate reason to be angry–not that anger makes for sensible solutions. But still, they’re not the bigots from Mars my Democratic friends seem to believe they are.

Obama took office as president on 20 January 2009. The subprime lending boom was 2004-2006. Major lenders started collapsing in 2007. Who was president then? Who appointed the regulators who were supposed to be keeping an eye on the lenders? Did Obama use a time machine, or are you claiming he did it in his three years in the senate?

Besides, I thought legitimately angry non-bigots not-from-Mars were blaming Jimmy Carter and the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 for forcing banks to make high risk loans to “urbanites”? Has someone sent out new talking points?

The only way democrats are to blame for Trump being back in the White House is their failure to disqualify him for his role in the attempted autogolpe of 6 January 2021, and for not talking Joe Biden into resigning one day after the half way point of his term so that Harris could have been the first female president, gone into the election with the incumbent’s advantage, and had the chance to serve two terms of her own and be the only person other than FDR to have served for more than 8 years.
