When I think about the billions Democratic candidates spent this cycle, it seems ridiculous that some of that money couldn’t have been spent instead on building a better media environment*. One obvious thing that could be done would be to pay a bunch of left-ish bloggers and journalists enough money to move their work out from behind a paywall (and I also would stipulate they have to do a couple of short TikTok videos).

Yes, doing this would mean that these ‘content creators’ (ugh) sometimes will write and say things professional Democrats don’t like. It would mean professional Democrats would give up some power. But until this happens, Republicans will have a built-in advantage.

The reality in 2024 is that misinformation and propaganda want to be free, but actual information is too often behind a paywall.

*I’m not arguing the party should pay for it directly, but some party-adjacent (or even one or two steps further removed) support would do the job.
