argh, thank you for the link to the “there is no such thing as herd immunity” article, but . . .

herd immunity is real and you achieve it by VACCINATING your herd. end of story. everybody* who went to ag school knows this, and everybody* who has a veterinarian for their herd knows this.

(everybody* — yes, there are people who successfully make it through ag school without actually believing this, and yes there are people who own herds and do not listen to their veterinarians)

there are lots of permutations involved in “which diseases do i vaccinate against, what percentage of my herd do i vaccinate, and how often do they get booster shots” but the basic question is whether the costs of vaccination outweigh the likely costs of sick, dying, and dead animals.

i’m still amazed that more veterinarians, ag schools, and real-life herd managers didn’t speak up more when all the faux “achieve herd immunity by spreading germs” baloney started popping up, but maybe they did and were drowned out.

that said, i’m a huge fan of masking and improved ventilation, but given that the current covid-fighting situation is “you’re on your own, free to use whatever you can find on youtube” i’m not so sure about uv light.
