    Very nice. ’57 or 58?

It’s a ‘59, the year that GM let it all hang out on the styling. They pulled it back the next year.

Although all they did on the 1960 was remove the little rocket ships from the tail fins. I learned to drive in one of these, and it wasn’t easy. I later spent four years in a motorhome, comfy enough, that was only two feet longer.

BTW, you get 8-10 mpg on a good day in these, if you nurse it. Another trivia point is that when Dad got rid of the caddie and got a Volvo 142 (the first square Volvo) it was just as fast in acceleration and top speed, had more interior room, vastly more trunk space, 25-35mpg, and of course infinitely better handling and braking. Good old American engineering.

I think I read somewhere that when Soviet Premier Khrushchev visited the US in the late ’50s, he was utterly baffled by the rocket-ship style fins on the big car bodies of the time!

And now they seem so quaint. Great car and thanks for posting.

    Needs more headlamps.

My favorite Cadillac of the fifties is the 1957 Coupe de Ville. When our nephew was married at the family home of the bride, that was one of their cars. A very pleasant surprise!
