I considered that before I got a Tesla. I have faith that Professor Jeff Dahn, Elon Musk and JB Straubel are right across it and have it all planned. They have publicly said as much.
Musk said that in a few years, the major source of battery chemicals will be recycling.
Further, Gigafactory 1 is planned to be solar and wind powered when completed to its design envelope.
In my case, at 4 years, my range degradation is less than 1%, so they’ll be waiting a while to get their hands on my 85 KwH battery. 😉

I am sure we could use more funding for nutrition research but we don’t need more research to tell us that huge subsidies to corporate corn farmers are flooding the world with high-fructose corn syrup. That is a major cause of obesity and is displacing small farmers all over Central America and feeding the immigration problem.
