The Blut Und Boden Wing Of The Republican Party

You might have heard about the pro-Confederate rally held in Charlottesville to protest the removal of monuments commemorating the reestablishment of white supremacy.

The year is 2017 and I had to write that sentence.

Anyway, while much has been said about this, there’s one thing that seems to have flown under the radar. See if you can find it! (boldface mine, because we like helping!)

Several dozen torch-wielding protesters gathered in Charlottesville’s Lee Park just after 9 p.m. Saturday, chanting “You will not replace us,” “Russia is our friend” and “Blood and soil.”

For those of you in the slow history class, “Blood and soil” (“Blut und Boden”) was a German Romantic racialist slogan that was adopted by the Nazis. Nazis.

This is surreal. Look, even staunch racist, shithead segregationists didn’t like Nazis (we fought a war against them). Nobody likes Nazis. When Spielberg needs a villain everyone can hate, he makes him a Nazi.

Yet here they are, chanting a slogan adopted and promulgated by Nazis. Even more surreal, the “Russia is our friend” chant was side-by-side with a pro-Nazi chant–and millions of Russians died fighting the Nazis.

If the Left is going to be tagged with idiotic actions by nineteen year-old college students, then it’s only fair that the Right is tagged with these bozos. Or, I should say, Nazis.

Out-of-town neo-Nazis tried a little hellraising on Boston Common the same day. They didn’t do so well http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/news/a55066/scenes-from-bostons-free-speech-rally/

    “Russia is our friend”

    Bizarro.

As The Doctor might say, “How very unhistoric”.

I might suggest that carrying torches looks more like a riot than a peaceful protest to me; cuff them, take them in, confiscate any weapons, put them on the “no fly” list.
