1. Virtually nobody reads or understands scientific findings let alone rebuttals to them.
2. “The classic model of scientific progress is that the field advances when new findings contradict or supersede old ones.” Yeah, and phlogiston theory is the classic model for combustion. Science progresses as scientists who hold positions of power – dept chair, journal editor, etc – die off. (Somewhere I’ve got a link to a study which – looking at authorship of journal articles – is consistent with that statement but I can’t find it at the moment.) “Where there’s death there’s hope.”
