War Is the Ultimate Big Government Program

To follow up on these posts, one thing I’ve never understood is how conservatives, who constantly proclaim that government can do nothing right (despite evidence to the contrary), when given an opportunity to declare war*, despite our last couple decades of heroic failure, think government can do no wrong.

A mystery, it is.

*In truth, Congress doesn’t declare war, activate the Selective Service, and so on. If it did, a reasonable hypothesis is that we would engage in far less military action abroad.

Congress and reasonable in the same paragraph. I have my doubts about that.

Democrats are as willing to go to war as Republicans. Militarism runs deep in the USA, in schools and labs as well as in Congress.
