The Rightwing Mob: Why We Can Not Live Half-Fox News and Half Free

Needless to say, if these ‘patriots’ were black, they would have been crushed with tanks by now. But the breakdown of law in Nevada was worse than I thought:

Within the past few days, local 8 News NOW received Police Reports and other information that show Bundy’s Anti-American, Anti-Government thugs:

– “poured lighter fluid around” news trucks,
– Issued “bomb threats” against Hotels where Federal employees were lodging,
– told hotel staff they would be “dragged out in the parking lot and shot”
– Bundy thugs asked Metro Police Sgt Jenkins if “he was ready to die”

They’re also showing up to intimidate the local city council:

Fox News 5 is reporting that Bundy’s armed thugs surrounded the City Council room and stood watch over a “standing-room only City council meeting” yesterday. Why did Bundy’s thugs attend the City Council meeting? Were they there to intimidate?

Again, Comrade Thers:

Anyway, what we have here is a situation where a relatively small minority of Americans are claiming the right, ultimately backed up by their possession of weapons, to define the True Nature of American Freedom.

Which is fine, I guess, at least according to CNN…

How this differs in any important philosophical regard from the position, of, say, the Provisional Irish Republican Army, I cannot say.

How it differs in any practical sense, well (McVeigh cough) who knows.

Nobody wants a Waco, but this has to stop (though they seem to be disintegrating as time passes). At some point, one of these yahoos will do something really stupid, and violence will ensue. That Fox News, and Sean Hannity in particular, promoted these bozos for ratings is shameful. More importantly, it’s harmful.

This is getting to be a very frightening country.

And it’s not like it wasn’t before. One of the things that’s struck me is in so many accounts of people traveling around the world (for instance a Thai couple who rode bicycles around the world for charity a few years back) is that the one place out of many countries where they ran into crime was the USA. It shouldn’t be like that. But it is. And getting worse.

Now ask yourself, What would George Washington do?

    Oh, wait! (See Whiskey Rebellion.)
