Like most people in the Coalition of the Sane, I’m frustrated by the forty-second (I think) Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare. Jokes about the definition of insanity (or hell) aside, Republicans have to know that they’re not going to win this–the PPACA is here to stay. But I also don’t understand the politics of this either.
I’m all for symbolic votes: parties should propose legislation that defines who they are and what they stand for, and make people go on record. Clarity about what parties stand for, what they want to accomplish is always a good thing in a democracy. If you can make your opponents squirm under the spotlight, that’s not always a bad outcome either (I think the Republicans real problem here is that their base hates Obamacare with a white-hot fury, while the majority is either undecided or likes it overall–as is the case with so many issues, movement conservatives know they don’t have majority support).
But even idiot Tea Buggerers should have caught on sometime around the tenth or twentieth attempt at repeal–Republicans don’t like this bill.
At this point, it’s no longer political symbolism, but utter nihilism: they can’t admit they are on the losing side, so they’re content to burn everything.
And the congregation responds: This is yet another reason why we can’t have nice things.

I don’t see any Obamacare cheerleading here. Mike is saying that fighting it has,continues to be and always will be a losing battle. The republicans fighting the bill don’t represent most americans and apparently Even republicans want to start backing away from the fight but can’t or their purity won’t be deemed high enough by foamy mouthed conservatives. The only way to have missed that point is if you’re a giant fucking idiot.
Also, I’d like to point out that Mike has covered at least some of the problems mentioned in your first link. I didn’t bother to look for his old post to compare how in depth his coverage was because you apparently couldn’t bother to do that either. For some reason (a very stupid one) you apparently haven’t bothered to familiarize yourself with his position on Obamacare before criticizing his opinion.
Protip: try stupiding less. You’ll stupid less often and look more unstupid on top of that.
