re: Why Nick Kristof’s Scientific Illiteracy Threatens Us All…
from the author’s [trevor butterworth] profile: “I write about data and statistics and how they are interpreted in our so-called “knowledge economy,” especially in relation to risk and regulation. [ ] I’m editor-at-large for STATS.org, a non-profit, non-partisan project affiliated with George Mason University”
george mason university is infamous for its koch-brothers-funded libertarian think tanks and sourcewatch lists stats.org as an anti-liberal front group: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Statistical_Assessment_Service
i too wish the media were more scientifically and mathematically and statistically literate, but my knee-jerk reaction is to distrust ANYTHING that comes out of gmu unless it’s been independently corroborated by multiple truly trustworthy sources.
