Pledge Week, PBS, and Commercial TV

This week is pledge week at PBS (and I encourage everyone to donate, even if it’s a very small amount-politicians want to know how many supporters various stations have). What if commercial TV had to have a pledge week? What would commercial TV look like?

I realize commercials are the equivalent of pledges, so they don’t have to shill for money. But imagine if cable and satellite TV allowed you to ‘buy’ stations á la carte (e.g., $1 per station per month). What would TV look like then?
