George Zornick points us to this figure from a polling report by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research for Democracy Corps and the Campaign for America’s Future:
What is going unsaid is that the Social Security fix is simple (albeit probably unnecessary unless we have 25 years of never-experienced low growth): eliminate the cap on taxable income. The Medicare crisis is based on some ridiculous assumptions–assumptions even the Federal Reserve question.
The brutal reality, and one that too many Democrats and their neo-liberal hangers-on desperately ignore, is that a large majority of Americans want to raise taxes on the rich to maintain government functions. This is an opportunity to lock down public support for the Democratic Party if done right. If not, all the talk about a new Democratic majority will look silly.
Remember: people have to like this crap.
